2007 AVCA Division I All-Region Teams

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Ohio senior Melissa Griffin has been named to the AVCA All-Mideast Region Team and sophomore Ellen Herman has been selected Mideast Region Honorable Mention, as announced by AVCA headquarters Wednesday afternoon.

Griffin, who earned Mideast Region Honorable Mention last season, becomes the fourth Ohio player in the history of the program to be named to the region team, joining Julia Winkield (2005), Briana Adamovsky (2004) and Laura Hageman (2003 & 2002). The 2007 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year had an outstanding final season, averaging 4.09 kills per game and hitting .352. Griffin totaled 470 kills on the season, the fourth-best single season mark at Ohio, and became the program's all-time kills leader, finishing her career with 1,678 kills. The Whitehall, Mich. native was the only student-athlete selected to the team not from a Big Ten Conference institution.

Herman becomes the fifth Bobcat to be named Mideast Region Honorable Mention, joining Griffin (2006), Savanah Parra (2005 & 2006), Stephanie Blackburn (2005) and Briana Adamovsky (2003). Herman is just the second Ohio sophomore to earn honorable mention recognition, joining fellow teammate Blackburn. This season the Toledo, Ohio native, posted 4.07 kills per game on a .243 hitting percentage. Herman stepped up in the big matches, as she led the team in kills in all four matches against ranked opponents this season, leading the Bobcats to a 3-1 record against the top 25.
