AKRON, Ohio - The Ohio softball team lost its first game of the 2008 MAC Softball Tournament to Bowling Green, 3-1, on Friday night. The Bobcats will face Central Michigan tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament.

Ohio tallied four hits in the game, including one each from Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.), Maureen McKelvey (Stow, Ohio), Deanna Hartsough (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Melissa Bonner (Kings Mills, Ohio). Bonner was also Ohio's only scorer.

Petrich's hit was a bunt in the top of the first inning. McKelvey hit a single to center field in the second. Hartsough singled up the middle to lead off the fourth inning, and Bonner singled through the right side in the sixth.

After four scoreless innings, the Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to lead them to victory. The Bobcats managed to get on the scoreboard with one run in the top of the sixth as Bonner scored on a sacrifice fly by McKelvey.

Emily Wethington (New Palestine, Ind.) took the loss for the Bobcats in the pitching circle, giving up four hits, three runs, and four walks. She also struck out three batters. Hayley Wiemer pitched a complete game for the Falcons for her 14th win of the season.
