ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio softball team closed out the regular season with a 7-5 loss to Toledo Sunday afternoon at the Ohio Softball Field.

The Bobcats wrapped up conference play with a 10-12 record for the second straight year, and an overall record of 25-24. The Rockets finished the season 16-28 overall and 5-15 in the MAC.

In today's game, Ohio finished with five runs on eights hits and three errors, while Toledo finished with seven runs on eight hits and three errors.

After Toledo scored two runs in the opening stanza, the Bobcats scored one run in both the first and second innings to tie the game at 2-2.

Senior Courtney Waters (Eagle River, Alaska) scored Ohio's first run on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Deanna Hartsough (Santa Ana, Calif.). Waters finished the game 1-for-2 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Hartsough finished 2-for-3, including her first career triple in the bottom of the seventh. In the second inning, senior Maureen McKelvey (Stow, Ohio) scored on an RBI single by freshman Jordan Paden (Walla Walla, Wash.).

Toledo then went on a run, outscoring the Bobcats 5-1 through the next four innings for a 7-3 lead. Senior Alicia Catlette (Mogadore, Ohio) scored for the Bobcats in the bottom of the fourth.

The Bobcats countered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough for the win. Waters scored the first run on an error and sophomore Shalene Petrich (Chehalis, Wash.) scored the next run on a sacrifice fly by freshman Melissa Bonner (Kings Mills, Ohio).
 

 

Sophomore Candace Saucedo (Ontario, Calif.) struck out just one batter, while giving up two hits and two runs in 1.1 innings of service for the loss. Toledo's Hanna Rockhold got the win, striking out just one and allowing eight hits.
