Day 1 Results

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.-The Ohio men's golf team stands tied for fifth after two rounds of play at the Rutherford Intercollegiate on the campus of Penn State University.

 

Ohio shot a 595 (297-298) Saturday, 23 shots behind the host Nittany Lions who stand in first with a total of 572 (286-286). Other MAC schools in competition were Miami (second, 583), Ball State (T-third, 590), Akron (T-fifth, 595) and Bowling Green (T-eighth, 597).

 

Sophomore Stewart Jamieson (Worthington, Ohio) fired a two-round total of 146 (70-76) on the par 71, 7,202-yard Blue Course to lead the Bobcats, while sophomore Chad Warmbein (74-74, McMurray, Pa.) stands two shots behind him. Sophomore Tim Gusweiler's (Loveland, Ohio) total of 150 (77-73) placed him in a tie for 20th, and junior James Ellis (76-78, McMurray, Pa.) posted a 154. Freshman Chuck Nettles (McMurray, Pa.) rounded out the team with a 157 (82-75).


 

 

 

Penn State's Robert Rohanna is the overall individual leader (140, 72-68).

 

Jamieson is tied for third in the tournament in par 3 scoring at even par (3.00). He and Warmbein are also third and fourth in pars with 27 and 26, respectively. As a team, Ohio registered 112 pars through the first two rounds, which is tied for second behind Penn State's 118.

 

Third round action will begin on a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Sunday.
