Ohio Football Holds First Scrimmage

ATHENS, Ohio-The Ohio football squad held its first scrimmage of the fall Tuesday at Peden Stadium.

 

Senior quarterback Brad Bower, who directed the offense on two scoring drives, finished the afternoon 4-9 for 41 yards and one touchdown pass. The Burr Ridge, Illinois native capped the game-opening, seven play drive with a 10-yard scoring toss to wide receiver Chido Nwokocha. Later, he was under center again when the offense marched down the field on an eight play drive, which was capped by a 42-yard field goal by Michael Braunstein.

 

Quarterback Theo Scott finished his day 3-8 for 60 yards, but was intercepted by linebacker Taj Henley in the latter half of the scrimmage on a deep ball. Freshman quarterback Josh Febus went 6-9 for 58 yards through the air, but was also picked off by safety Todd Koenig to snuff out his first series of the day. Bobcat quarterbacks also connected with 10 different receivers on the afternoon with Nwokocha leading the way with five catches for 80 yards and the score. Robert Preston also posted four catches for 18 yards.

 

On the ground, senior Joshua Abrams paced the running game with 59 yards on nine carries, while senior Kalvin McRae had 49 yards on just six carries. Freshmen Vince Davidson (8 carries, 49 yards) and Donte Harden (12 carries, 42 yards) also put forth stellar performances in their first taste of live action.

 

Defensively, safety Donovan Fletcher had six tackles to lead the way, while Jameson Hartke, Michael Mitchell and Curtis Meyers all had four stops.
