ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - The Buffalo Bills announced on Thursday that former Bobcat receiver Scott Mayle (Phillipi, W.Va.) has signed a free agent contract with the team. Mayle is the third Bobcat to sign an NFL contract since the 2007 draft.

Mayle played in all 14 games in 2006, making 13 starts. He was second on the squad with 38 receptions and recorded a team-high 411 yards. Mayle also had four rushes for 57 yards and a touchdown. The speedster was the Bobcats top kick returner with 14 returns for 287 yards.

Mayle was one of the most productive receivers in school history. He finished his career ranked fourth all-time with 107 catches, second all-time with 1,847 career receiving yards and third all-time with 11 touchdown catches. Mayle also ranks among Ohio's career leaders in kickoff returns (4th- 64), kickoff return yards (3rd - 1,422), kickoff return average (5th - 22.22) and all-purpose yards (4th - 3,559).

"He can really stretch the field and scare you down the field," Bills coordinator of college scouting Doug Majeski told the team's official website, www.buffalobills.com. "They had a real productive running back at Ohio so even though they went three-wide a lot they were a running team. But when they got the ball to this guy he can really get away from people He's one of the faster kids we looked at in college football. He ran a 4.38 this spring."

Mayle is now one of six former Bobcats currently on NFL rosters. Classmates Matt Muncy and T.J. Wright both signed with the Cincinnati Bengals on Wednesday. Ohio's All-America punter Dave Zastudil plays with the Cleveland Browns, while 2005 All-American Dion Byrum is a cornerback with the Carolina Panthers. Chip Cox, who finished his Bobcat career in 2004, is a safety with the Washington Redskins.
