David Brown is the newest member of the Ohio coaching staff after joining the program in March of 2006.

In his first season at Ohio, Brown's cornerback corps boasted two of the nation's leaders n passes defended. T.J. Wright finished sixth with 1.57 passes defended per game, while Mark Parson was tied for 18th in country with a 1.21 per-game average. The tandem ranked first and second, respectively, in the MAC. Wright was chosen first-team All-MAC after setting Ohio's single-season records for both pass break-ups and total passes defended. Parson finished second on both lists. Overall, the Bobcat pass defense finished third in the MAC and 18th in the nation. Ohio was also 15th in the country in pass efficiency defense.

Brown also works with the Bobcats' punt return unit. Ohio was third in the MAC and 15th in the nation, averaging 13.11 yards per attempt. Return man Chris Garrett averaged 14.54 yards per return, seventh best in the nation overall and tops among 2006 freshmen. Garrett earned third-team Freshman All-America honors from The Sporting News as a return specialists.

Brown came to Ohio after five years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Cal Poly. He spent his last two years as the Mustangs' defensive coordinator and secondary coach. While in charge of the Cal Poly defense, the Mustangs had players win the Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented to the top defensive player in Division I-AA, two times.

The Mustangs' defense was among the best in Division I-AA in 2005, helping the team to an 8-3 record, its second straight Great West Football Conference championship and the school's first-ever berth in the NCAA playoffs. Brown's defensive unit led all of Division I with a school-record 67 sacks. The Mustangs also ranked among Division I-AA's top 25 in opponent yards per carry (7th), scoring defense (13th), turnovers gained (t-14th), interceptions (17th) and total defense (22nd).

Brown's 2004 unit finished first in the nation in rushing defense, allowing only 84.3 yards per game, helping the Mustangs to a 9-2 record. The Mustangs also led Division I-AA with 50 sacks and ranked among the nation's top 20 in scoring defense (9th), interceptions (2nd), turnovers gained (4th) and pass efficiency defense (19th).

Brown served as Cal Poly's linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator during his first three seasons on the staff from 2001-03. He also worked with the special teams, specifically the kickoff and punt returners.

In total, Brown has coached six All-Americans at five different positions (defensive end, linebacker, cornerback, safety and two return specialists), including five at Cal Poly and one at his previous stop at Idaho State.

Brown spent the 2000 season as the running backs coach at Idaho State where he mentored a 1,000-yard rusher. He also worked with the kickoff and punt returners, as well as serving as the team's academic coordinator.

In the summer of 2004, Brown participated in the NFL's minority internship program with the Detroit Lions. In the spring of 2005, he traveled to Tokyo, Japan to help teach the Fujitsu Frontiers' coaching staff on defensive and overall coaching strategies. He also worked with the squad's secondary on fundamental man-to-man techniques.

Brown has also served as the defensive coordinator at Venice High School in Los Angeles, the defensive coordinator for the Cologne Crocodiles in Cologne, Germany, the defensive backs coach at Claremont McKenna College and the defensive backs coach at Allan Hancock College.

A native of Los Angeles, Brown earned an associate's degree from Santa Monica College in 1992, and went on to receive a bachelor's degree in physical education from Cal Poly in 1996. He was a two-year member of the Mustangs' football team. Brown led the squad with 69 tackles and recorded three interceptions in 1994. As a senior, he registered 54 tackles with three interceptions while serving as a team captain. Brown also received a Master's of Education in cross-cultural teaching from the National University in San Diego in 2000.

Brown's recruiting area includes the Toledo area in northwest Ohio, California, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan and North Carolina.
