Game Notes vs. St. John's

First Half:

-          Ohio did not get on the scoreboard until a Leon Williams bucket at 17:03.


 

 

-          St. John's started the game 4-of-6 from the floor and build at 9-2 lead at 16:23 ... Ohio started just 1-of-6 from the field.

-          Ohio took its first lead of the game - 17-16 - with 8:15 remaining in the period a jumper by Kenneth van Kempen.

-          After taking that lead, Ohio went from 8:15 to 3:46 between scores, and it was until 2:06 before the next field goal made.

 

At the Half:  St. John's 28, Ohio 25

-          Williams and van Kempen led Ohio with six points apiece ... Sean Evans and Larry Wright led St. John's with five points apiece.

-          Ten of the 11 players that played in the first half for St. John's scored.

 

Second Half:

-          Ohio went on a 10-2 run from 16:35 to 13:38 to take a 42-36 lead.

-          St. John's answered that run with a 7-0 spurt of its own to regain the lead, 43-42.

-          Ohio followed that with a 12-2 run from 11:11 to 7:02 to take its largest lead of the game, 54-45.

-          Ohio held St. John's without a score from 10:58 to 6:38.

-          Eight of Ohio's last 10 points in the game came at the free throw line.

 

Final:  Ohio 71, St. John's 69

-          Williams led all scorers with 24 points, including 18 in the second half.

-          Williams added 10 rebounds to his game totals to secure his 31st career double-double.

-          D.J. Kennedy led St. John's with 17 points, one shy of tying a season and career-high.

-          Ohio outscored St. John's at the free throw line 25-10.

-          Ohio is now 2-2 all-time in Rainbow Classic play ... They went 1-2 in the 1999 edition.

-          St. John's is now 3-4 all-time in the Rainbow Classic with the loss ... The Red Storm still maintain the all-time series lead with Ohio, 3-2.
