Ohio Bobcats vs. Akron Zips

March 4, 2008

Convocation Center - Athens, Ohio

Akron 80, Ohio 77

First Half

-          Ohio won the tip with Leon Williams flicking the ball back to Michael Allen.

-          Jerome Tillman scored the first bucket of the game on a layup from the left side.

-          Nick Dials had the first points for the Zips with a driving layup down the lane.

-          Bubba Walther's first 3-pointer of the game tied him for eighth all-time in Bobcat history with 138 made shots from downtown.

-          Leon Williams' 17 first-half points was the most by a Bobcat this season in the opening period of play.

Second Half

-          Walther took over sole possession of eighth in the Bobcats all-time made 3-pointers list with a deep three with just more than 10 minutes remaining in the second half.

-          Ohio made 11 straight free throw attempts to begin the half.

-          Tillman, like in the first half, connected on Ohio's first hoop of the half.

-          Walther scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half, including three 3-pointers. The senior made 4-of-8 attempts from deep.

Postgame

-          Williams moved into seventh all-time in Bobcat history in points scored. He was six points shy of the mark (1,625) entering the game and racked up 23 points in the contest.

-          Williams grabbed just three rebounds in the contest, despite the Bobcats outrebounding the Zips 33-17. It matched his low on the season.

-          Williams needs just four boards in Sunday's battle with Buffalo to become Ohio's second all-time leading rebounder.

-          Williams is already one of just three Bobcats in program history to grab 1,000 rebounds and score 1,000 points - joining Brandon Hunter and Gary Trent in the Ohio record books.

-          Ohio has outrebounded its last five opponents. The last time the Bobcats accomplished that feat was the last four games of the 2003-04 season and the 2004-05 season opener. Akron's 17 rebounds also matched a season-low for an Ohio opponent (St. Bonaventure).

-          Ohio had posted fewer blocks than its opponent in five straight games before registering two to Akron's one in Tuesday's game.

-          Ohio's 34 free throw attempts ties its season-high effort against St. John's in the Rainbow Classic.

-          The loss to Akron snapped a 12-game Ohio home winning streak that dates back to last season.

-          Akron's nine turnovers matched the total it had in its 55-54 win over Ohio earlier this season. That total is a season-low for a Bobcat opponent.

-          Akron's 60.4 field goal percentage is the highest clip any Bobcat opponent has converted this season.

-          The Bobcats have been tied or trailing heading into halftime in seven of their last eight games (3-5).
