Dear Bobcat Fans,
I hope this finds you doing well and having enjoyed a great Thanksgiving Holiday. The Bobcats kicked off the Holiday Season with an exceptional weekend! On November 19, Craig Leon competed in the NCAA Cross Country Nationals finishing 106th out of 250. Craig finishes his athletic eligibility on a great note, and leaves a mark on the records books as the second fasted 8k runner in Ohio history. November 24 was a busy day for Bobcat Athletics, with four teams competing. Wrestling began its season by beating four out of five teams competing at the Hoosier Duals in Indiana. Ohio knocked off Liberty, Duke, Cumberland, and Oregon. At the first of three home events, the Women's Basketball team earned its first win of the season by roaring past Presbyterian College by 31 points. Later that day, the Bobcat Football team came away with a win in its final home game against Miami. The Mid-American Conference recently named six Bobcats to the All-MAC football squad. Running back Kalvin McRae has been selected to participate in the 2008 Hula Bowl after setting school records in rushing yards, 100-yard rushing games, rush attempts, rushing yards per game, all-purpose yards, and tied for the most total touchdowns. He also set single-season records in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, rushing attempts and rushing yards per game. Capping off the day, Bobcat Volleyball beat the 23rd ranked Louisville Cardinals 3-2 in its final regular season home match. Congratulations to the Volleyball team and coaching staff for advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year. The Winter sports are off to a great start and we look forward to cheering on the 19th ranked Volleyball team as it finishes another spectacular season. Over the course of the past few weeks we have received a few emails and phone calls regarding Ohio Basketball not being broadcast in the Columbus market during the 2007-2008 season. I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on this item. We were informed between the end of the men's basketball season in March, 2007 and the beginning of the new academic year that our broadcasting costs for football and men's basketball would increase 75% for 2007-2008. Simply, this was not an increase that we could afford. Our staff has worked very hard to find a new home for Ohio Athletics in the Columbus market. In all, we approached 13 Columbus radio stations and 21 Greater Columbus radio stations. As you know, we were able to initiate a partnership with WCLT-FM in Newark to broadcast our 2007 football games. However, due to the high volume of broadcast commitments we could not find a home for Ohio basketball that would fit within our current budget. We remain focused on finding a Columbus affiliate for both football and men's basketball. We have established several contacts with radio stations who have expressed an interest in Ohio Athletics. While these stations did not feel as if they could add an additional sports element to their current broadcast offerings, they are interested in meeting with our staff in 2008 about future opportunities. Columbus is very important to us and we will continue to exhaust each and every opportunity to find a broadcast partner in this market. Closing:
Ohio Athletics celebrated another championship caliber fall season with Mid-American Conference Titles in Women's Cross Country, Field Hockey and Volleyball. We look forward to more successes in the winter and spring seasons and sincerely thank you for your continued support as we work together to further establish Ohio Athletics as the premier athletics program in the Mid-American Conference! Go Bobcats! Kirby
