Dear Bobcat Fans,

It is a great time to be a Bobcat! The 2006-2007 academic year is off to a great start for the Bobcats! In this column, I am excited to provide you with updates on a few of our recent successes and important initiatives:

Ohio Bobcat Club Success:
I am proud to say that after only four months (as of Sept. 7), the Ohio Bobcat Club has already surpassed the total amount of unrestricted dollars raised all of last year. Nearly 600 members have contributed donations totaling over $302,000. I would like to thank those of you who have joined the Ohio Bobcat Club. You are a member of a significant and essential group that is dedicated to the student-athlete experience. Please encourage your friends and family to learn more about the Ohio Bobcat Club. The growth of this program is critical to our future successes.

Wins versus Big Ten, ACC & Big East Conference Teams!
The month of September has been a great month for the Bobcats! In the past couple of weeks, we have defeated teams from the Big Ten Conference (Ohio Field Hockey 2, Penn State 1), Atlantic Coast Conference (Ohio Volleyball 3, Maryland 1) and Big East Conference (Ohio Soccer 2, Pittsburgh 1).

The Ohio Cross Country teams also got off to a great start with the women's team taking first place in the Green and White Invitational and the Mel Brodt Invitational, and the men's team winning the Green & White Invitational .

Football Season Ticket Record:
I am glad to report that our football season ticket sales have increased by 34% over last year, and that those numbers continue to grow as fans are still purchasing Bobcat Family Packages. I was proud to see that, despite the weather, Peden Stadium was full of cheering Bobcat fans a few weeks ago when the football team won its home opener against UT Martin. We hope each of you will make plans to be in Peden Stadium as the Bobcats look to go 2-0 in conference play on Sept. 30 when Bowling Green comes to town.

Men's Basketball Celebration:
This season marks Ohio University's 100th men's basketball season, and you won't want to miss it! Season ticket renewals are now in the mail and a number of special events have been planned throughout the centennial season. On Throw-Back Night, we will incorporate old-school uniforms and the music and clothing from the 1960s to honor and celebrate the success of the 1964 basketball team. We also are in the planning stages of Legends Night and Reunion Night. For those of you who live further north, we will be celebrating Ohio's 100th year of men's basketball in Cleveland when the Bobcats take on the Bearcats of Cincinnati on Dec. 30.

National Exposure:
Ranked 20th in the country, the Ohio Volleyball Team is off to a great start with an 8-3 record. The Bobcats opened their non-conference season by competing in the prestigious AVCA College Volleyball Showcase against defending national champion and third-ranked Washington as well as No. 9 Wisconsin. The match against the Badgers was broadcast on CSTV and marked the Bobcats' first-ever volleyball appearance on national television. We are looking forward to the volleyball team's home opener at the Convo on Sept. 28 and extending one of the nation's longest home-court winning streaks!

The Field Hockey team has met a tough non-conference schedule head on, and is prepared for conference play to begin. With six competitions against teams ranked in the Top 20, and a great road win over then-No. 7 Penn State, Ohio Field Hockey has been receiving Top 25 votes in coaches' polls.
